Technician Handbook Air Conditioning for Collision Repair Visual Inspection & Performance Check Whether estimating or beginning a repair, you will need to evaluate the condition of the AC system. It is important to do a thorough inspection both before and after the repair. What do you look for when conducting visual inspection and performance check? • Begin by determining what kind of AC system is on the vehicle. This information can be found by looking up the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on TIS. There you will find a listing of the options originally installed on the vehicle.
• Depending on the type of damage the vehicle has sustained, your next step is to determine if the AC system is operating correctly. Move inside the vehicle and check the operation of the fan, outlet modes, and cooling performance. Perform a “Health Check” using Techstream to find any AC system Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). • Move under the hood to inspect the overall condition of the system components including the refrigerant lines, Compressor, Fans/Shrouds, Condenser and Radiator. • Also inspect under the vehicle. NOTE This course includes a “ Visual Inspection & Performance Checks Job Aid ” that you can use to conduct thorough inspections. Collision Repair & Refinish Training 23
