103 Maintenance Section Cooling System Level - Check NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, test- ing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before open- ing any compartment or disassembling any compo- nent containing fluids. The cooling system pressure cap is located under the engine hood at the rear of the machine. 1. Slowly loosen the cooling system pressure cap in order to relieve any system pressure. Remove the cooling system pressure cap. 2.
If necessary, drain enough coolant from the radiator in order to allow the addition of the Extender to the cooling system. The cooling system drain valve is located on the lower left side of the radiator. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide” for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 3. Add 0.95 L (32 fl oz) of Extender to the cooling system. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Capacities (Refill)” for the correct amount.
NOTICE Mixing ELC with other products that do not meet Caterpillar EC-1 specifications reduces the effective- ness of the coolant and shortens coolant service life. 4. Check the coolant level. Use only Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants. Use only Caterpillar Extender with Caterpillar ELC.
