Replace the liner if it does not meet the specifications. Upper Main Bearing Shells - Installation Caution: The bearing shells are marked with the words and Each must be installed in the correct location to prevent engine damage. If used bearing shells are to be installed, each must be installed in its original location in the engine. The bearing journal numbers should have been marked in the bearing tangs during disassembly. Caution:
The tang (1) on the bearing shell must be in the slot (2) of the bearing saddle to correctly position the bearing and prevent engine damage. Install the upper main bearing shells.
