General information/Engine references ENGINE REFERENCES Direction of engine rotation: Clockwise rotation when viewed from water pump end. Engine front reference: The water pump end is the “front” of the engine. Cylinder number 1 is at the front of engine. Engine side references: “Right-hand” and “left-hand” sides are determined by facing the flywheel end (rear) of the engine. Right-hand side is the camshaft side while left-hand side is the fuel injection pump side.
