3.6 Long-term storage Operation 3.6 Long-term storage 3.6.1 Before storage When putting the machine in storage for a long time (more than one month), do as follows. z Clean and wash all parts, then store the machine indoors. If the machine has to be stored outdoors, select level ground and cover the machine with a sheet. z Fill the fuel tank to prevent moisture from accumulating. z Completely fill the fuel tank, lubricate and change the oil before storage. z Apply a thin coat of grease to the metal surface of the hydraulic piston rods. z Disconnect the negative terminals of the battery and cover it or remove it from the machine and store it separately.
z Make sure that the machine does not move by setting the safety lock lever in the LOCK position. 3.6.2 During storage If it is unavoidably necessary to carry out the rust-preven- tive operation while the machine is indoors, open the doors and windows to improve ventilation and prevent gas poi- soning. z During storage, always operate the machine once a month so that a new film of oil will be coated over movable parts and component surfaces. At the same time, also charge the battery. z When operating the work equipment, wipe off all the grease from the hydraulic cylinder rod.
z If the machine is equipped with an air conditioner, operate it for 3 to 5 minutes once a month to lubricate each portion of its compressor. Be sure to idle the engine at low speed for this purpose. Also, check the quantity of refrigerant twice a year. 3.6.3 After storage NOTE If the machine is to be used when the monthly rust preven- tion operation has not been carried out, please contact your KOMATSU distributor. When using the machine after long-term storage, do as follows before using it. z Wipe off the grease from the hydraulic cylinder rods. z Add oil and grease to all lubrication points. 3-108 WA150-5H – VEAM934100 WARNING WARNING
