The front shock absorbers (700 HDX) or front and rear shock absorbers (500 HDX/Prowler models) have an adjust- ment sleeve with five preload adjustment positions that can be turned with a special spanner wrench to increase or decrease coil spring tension. NOTE: For proper air pressure in rear shocks, use the following rec- ommended settings. The vehicle must be on the ground with no load in cargo box. Do not rapidly fill shocks. Shocks may lose air over time. Check pressure periodically. To adjust the spring force on these shock absorbers, rotate the pre-load adjustment sleeve with a suitable spanner wrench until desired spring tension is achieved.
HDX087A General Lubrication Cables None of the cables require lubrication; however, it is advisable to lubricate the ends of the cables periodically with a good cable lubricant. PR015 NOTE: Before attempting to adjust suspension, clean dirt and debris from the sleeve and remove load from the suspension; then use the spanner wrench to adjust the sleeve to the desired position. Cargo Box Latches (HDX) Periodically apply a light coat of grease to the latches and pins. Do not over grease. Engine/Transmission Oil and Filter NOTE: Refer to the recommended oil viscosity chart (on page 35) in this manual for the proper engine oil.
On the 700 HDX, the rear shock absorb- ers combine fixed pre-load springs and a variable air assist to provide adjustment allowing for differing driving and load- ing conditions. Change the engine oil and oil filter at the scheduled intervals. The engine should always be warm when the oil is changed so the oil will drain easily and completely. To adjust air pressure on these shock absorbers, connect the air pump to the valve fitting on the top of the shock absorber and pump (to increase pressure) or depress bleed valve (to decrease pres- sure) until desired pressure is achieved. 1. Park the vehicle on level ground. 2.
Remove the seat(s); then remove the center console (Prowler) or seat back and seat back (HDX). 40 Payload Pressure 0-250 lb 15 psi 250-500 lb 60 psi (min) 500-750 lb 90 psi (min) 750-1000 lb 150 psi Position Spring Force Setting Load 1 Stronger Soft Stiff Light Heavy 2 3 4 5
