PAINTING FOR NEW VEHICLES 1-27 (2) UNDERCOATING (ED) STAGE This is the stage in which the body is fully dipped in an electrodepositing (ED) solution to form a coat by crystallization over the entire steel surface. This stage is most critical for corrosion preventive performance. CD ED coating DIPPING f DRIP DRY The body is fully dipped in the bath and electricity (200 to 300V) is applied to form a coat over the surface by crystallization. The body is removed from the bath and the paint is let dry. WASHING DRYING The body is washed again to remove residual paint. The paint is dried and hardened at temperature of 150 to 1 70°C.

(3) POLYVINYL CHLORIDE PAINT UNDERCOATING PVC is applied to the floor and wheel housing to increase resistance against chipping and corrosion, and to improve sound and vibration insulation. CD Undercoating MASKING COATING REMOVING THE MASKING Holes in the floor are plugged from underneath mainly with foamed styrene having an adhesive side. PVC is applied to the floor using a spray gun. The masking is removed. But drying is not done until after the second coating. -29-
