it ENGINE MECHANICAL — Engine Tune-up EM-9 I NSPECTION OF BATTERY 1.26 1. CHECK BATTERY SPECIFIC GRAVITY (a) Check the specific gravity of each cell. Standard specific gravity When fully charged at 20°C (68°F): 1 .25 — 1.27 If not within specification, charge the battery. Upper Level (b) Check the electrolyte quantity of each cell. If insufficient, refill with distilled (or purified) water. Lower Level CH0551 2. CHECK BATTERY TERMINALS, FUSIBLE LINKS AND FUSES (a) Check that the battery terminals are not loose or corroded. (b) Check the fusible links and fuses for continuity. I NSPECTION OF HIGH - TENSION CORDS 1.
CAREFULLY REMOVE HIGH-TENSION CORDS BY THEIR RUBBER BOOTS FROM SPARK PLUGS NOTICE: Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside. 2. INSPECT HIGH-TENSION CORD RESISTANCE Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance without dis- connecting the distributor cap. Maximum resistance: 25 kQ per cord If resistance is greater than maximum, check the termi- nals. If necessary, replace the high-tension cord and/or distributor cap. I NSPECTION OF SPARK PLUGS ( See page IG-6) Recommended spark plug: ND W16EXR-U NGK BPR5EY Correct electrode gap: 0.8 mm (0.031 in.)
