Technician Handbook ! 302 Manual Transmissions & Transaxles Clutch System Bleeding Brake fluid is typically used as the hydraulic fluid in hydraulic clutch systems. The steps in a typical clutch bleeding procedure include: • Remove the bleeder plug cap of the clutch release bleeder sub-assembly. • Connect a vinyl tube to the bleeder plug. • Press the clutch pedal 5 times, and then loosen the bleeder plug while the pedal is depressed. • When fluid no longer comes out, tighten the bleeder plug, and then release the clutch pedal. • Repeat both of the previous 2 steps 6 times. • Tighten the bleeder plug and replace the bleeder plug cap.

• Press the clutch pedal 10 times or more and confirm its operation. NOTE When bleeding the clutch system, be sure to keep the fluid level in the reservoir between the MIN and MAX lines to avoid introducing air in the lines. Always refer to the appropriate Repair Manual for detailed bleeding procedures. 18 Technical Training
