SE VMCEAND AD, USTMENTS IDLE FUEL ADJUSTING IDLE SPEED NEEDLE TO ADJUST CARBURETOR (See Fig, 34) The carburetorhas been present at the factory and adjust- ment should not be necessary. However, minor adjustment may be required to compensate for differences in fuel, temperature, altitude or load. If the carburetor does need adjustment, proceed as follows: In general, turning the adjusting needles in (c_ockwise) decreases the supply of fuel to the enginegiving a leaner fuel/air mixture° Turning the adjusting needles out (coun- terclockwise) increases the supply of fuel to the engine giving a richer fuel/air mixture, IMPORTANT:

DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLES AND THE SEATS IN CARBURETOR MAY RESULT IF SCREW IS TURNED IN TOO TIGHT° PRELIMINARY SETTING - THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE ° Be sure you have a clean air filter, and the throttle control cable is adjusted proper!y (see "TO ADJLIST THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE in the Service and Adjustments section of this manual). 3HOKE CONTROL CABLE With engine off turn idle fuel adjusting needle in (clock- wise) closing it finger tight and then turn out (counter- clockwise) 1 turn,, FINAL SETTING - STOP SCREW P SCREW = Start engine and allow to warm for five minutes° Make final adjustments with engine running and shifVmotion control lever in neutral (N) position. FIG.

34 TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL (See Figs. 34 and 35) The choke control has been preset at the factory and adjustment should not be necessary_ check adjustment as described below before loosening cable,, If adjustment is necessary, proceed as follows: = With engine not running, move choke control (located on dash panel) to full choke position. * Remove air cleaner cover, filter and cartridge plate to expose carburetor choke (See "AIR FILTER" in the Customer Responsibilities section of this manual)° . Choke should be closed° if it is not, loosen casing clamp screw and move choke cable until choke is completely closed° Tighten casing clamp screw se- curely. . Reassemble air cleaner.

° The high idle is set at the factory and cannot be adjusted,, o L_,le speed,se,_inq - With throttle control lever in slow position, engine should idle at 'i200 RPMo If engine Idlestoo slow or fast, turn idle speed adjusting screw in or out until correct idle is attained. . Idle fuel needle settina - With throttle control lever in slowposition, turn idie fuel adjusting needfe in (clock- wise) until engine speed decreases and then turn out (counterctocl_wise) approximately 3/4 turn to obtain the best low speed performance. ° Recheck idle speed_ Readjust if necessary, ACCELERAt"ION TEST - Move throttle control lever from slow to fast position.

If engine hesitates or dies, tum idle fuel adjusting needle out (counterclockwise) 1/8 turn. Repeat test and con- tinue to adjust, if necessary, until engine accelerates smoothly° FULLCHOKE High speed stop is factory adjusted_ Do not adjust-damage may result. IMPORTANT: NEVER TAMPER WITH THE ENGINE GOVERNOR, WHICH IS FACTORY SET FOR PROPER ENGINE SPEED, OVERSPEEDtNGTHE ENGINE ABOVE THE FACTORY HIGH SPEED SETTING CAN BE DANGEROUS. IF YOU THINKTHE ENGINE-GOVERNED HIGH SPEED NEEDS ADJUSTING, CONTACT YOUR NEAREST AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER/ DEPARTMENT, WHICH HAS PROPER EQUIPMENT AND EXPERIENCE TO MAKE ANY NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS° CLOSED FOR_ FIG. 35 27
