Toyota — AIR CONDITIONING FOR COLLISION REPAIR Course 504 Technician Handbook

Technician Handbook Air Conditioning for Collision Repair Refrigerant Anytime a sealed AC system is opened for repair, you will need to recover (remove), recycle and recharge the refrigerant. The entire process must be contained so that no refrigerant is allowed to escape. Because of its potential harm to the environment, all refrigerant use is regulated by Federal and many state laws to prevent it from escaping into the atmosphere. Be sure you are certified to handle and recycle refrigerants by an accredited association such as MACS or ASE. Not being certified can be expensive in fines and loss of business. PRECAUTIONS Here are some important precautions:

• Never release refrigerants to the atmosphere. This is both harmful to the environment and can result in fines. • Never mix different types of refrigerant or oils. • Do not attempt refrigerant recovery on an empty system. • Do not turn the AC on before charging with refrigerant. 8 Collision Repair & Refinish Training
