section 3 i5601E Digital display Before performing any operations within this section, review the “Safety Section” starting on page xviii. WARNING sudden movement hazard Changing some settings on the i5601E may cause the electronic control system to act differently. After ANY change, proceed with caution until you are sure of the effects of the change. CAUTION On 6CX Systems, if the “Default Monitor” command or the “Set System Default” command is selected the system will revert to a 6LY3 System and need to be reset to a 6CX System. The 6LY3, 6CX and SY Gen III use the i5601E Digital Display. The BY2 Unlimited always uses the i5601E in Stern Drive applications.
The BY2 Unlimited Marine Gear may use the i5601E as a primary or optional display. On start up of the system all engines except the 6CX (see below), the i5601E Digital Display determines what type of engine it is connected to and varies the displays to match that type of engine. Thus some of the screens will appear a little different, based on the engine. The Digital Display also determines some of the features and adjusts its display based on what is available or selected. An example of this is the type of Sync that is selected. The Lead Engine option is only displayed when Power Train Sync is selected.
The overall operation of the display is the same regardless of the engine type that is connected. The i5601E Digital Display is shipped in identical form with the 6LY3 and 6CX engine control systems. For 6CX engines the following applies: if the “Default Monitor” command or the “Set System Default” command is selected the system will revert to a 6LY3 System and will need to be reset to a 6CX System. For the 6CX Engine to show on the i5601E Digital Display, software revision 4.0 or higher is required.The i5601E must be manually set for the 6CX engine during initial setup. Manually changing the system to the 6CX Engine is covered on page 3:13 later in this section of the manual.
Software Updates The i5601Es may have their software updated with the appropriate level of software using the CAN Bus.
