Maintenance Power Steering Pump Belt NOTE! Improper power steering belt adjustment will result in hard steering. With engine OFF, check power steering pump ( 2 ) belt deflection midway between the circulating pump pul- ley and the power steering pump pulley (position E on previous image). To increase belt tension: 1. Loosen pump mounting bracket screws (positions 1 , 3 , and 5 ). 2. With a breaker bar inserted in position 4 , increase belt tension by moving mounting bracket to the right. 3. While maintaining pressure on the mounting bracket, tighten the screw closest to the breaker bar (position 5 ), then tighten the other screws. 4. Recheck belt tension.
