Toyota — AIR CONDITIONING & CLIMATE CONTROL Course 752 Handbook

Handbook 752 Air Conditioning and Climate Control Safety Precautions There is a possibility for dangerous contact with moving parts, pressurized gases, high-current electrical circuits and accidental Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) deployment. Consider the potential hazards involved and use these following safe working practices. Compressed Gases Compressed Gases—present in vehicle air-conditioning systems, recovery/recycling equipment and pressure test gauges. All pressurized gases have these characteristics: • When heated, internal pressure increases (rises). • When pressure is suddenly released, the temperature of the gas decreases (drops).

CAUTION All pressurized gases exhibit two hazardous characteristics: • Heat applied to a pressurized system can quickly increase beyond a safe limit. This could result in an explosion. • Refrigerant gas can cause frostbite. Always wear safety goggles and gloves when working with refrigerant gas. 4 Technical Training
