Introduction Certified Engines The engine must not be modified in any way except with accessories and service kits approved by Volvo Penta. If you own an engine certified for any area where exhaust emissions are regulated by law, the fol- lowing is important: No modifications to the exhaust pipes and air supply ducts for the engine may be undertaken. Certification means that an engine type is inspected and approved by the authorities. The engine manufac- turer guarantees that all engines manufactured of that type correspond to the certified engine. Seals may only be broken by authorized person- nel. This places special requirements for maintenance and service as follows:

Otherwise the general instructions contained in this Operator’s Manual concerning operation, service, and maintenance must be followed. The maintenance and service intervals recom- mended by Volvo Penta must be observed. NOTE! Late or inadequate maintenance/service or the use of spare parts other than Volvo Pen- ta original spare parts will invalidate Volvo Penta’s responsibility for the engine specifi- cation being in accordance with the certified variant. Only genuine Volvo Penta replacement parts may be used. The servicing of ignition, timing, and fuel injec- tion systems must always be carried out by an authorized Volvo Penta workshop.

Volvo Penta accepts no responsibility or liability for any damage or costs arising due to the above. 7743722 - Downloaded from www.volvopenta.com 13/05/2008 20:17:06 22771 14 VPA 7743722 English 10-2004
