SAFETY Accumulator and Gas Spring This machine is equipped with an accumulator which makes it possible to operate the work equipment lever in the LOWER direction for a short time even after the engine has stopped. This allows the work equipment to go down under its own weight. After stopping the engine, set the work equipment lock lever to the LOCK position. The accumulator is charged with high-pressure nitrogen gas. When handling the accumulator, a careless procedure may cause an explosion which could lead to serious personal injury or death. Always observe the following precautions. Do not disassemble the accumulator. Do not bring it near flame or dispose of it in fire.
Do not make holes in it, weld it, or use a cutting torch. Do not hit or roll the accumulator, or subject it to any impact. When disposing of the accumulator, the gas must be released. Contact your Komatsu distributor to have this work performed. Tires If handled improperly, tires can explode, causing the rim to fly off; resulting in possible serious personal injury, death, and property damage. Maintenance, repair, disassembly and assembly of the tires and rims require special equipment and technology, so always ask your Komatsu distributor to perform those tasks. Observe the following precautions for safety. Only use tires recommended by Komatsu.
It is very important to maintain the proper inflation pressure. See “Air Pressure Chart” on page 2-156. If the tire pressure deflates abnormally or the rim parts do not fit the tire, there is a problem with the tire or rim parts. Contact your Komatsu distributor for repairs. Never carry out welding or light a fire near the tire. Do not adjust tire inflation pressure immediately after traveling at high speed or operations under heavy load. Always release all pressure from a single tire, or from both tires of a dual assembly, prior to removing any rim components.
Before removing the tire from the machine for repairs, remove the valve partially to release the air from the tire, then remove the tire. Make sure that there is nobody in the vicinity before starting to inflate a tire. Before inflating tires, always check the wheel rims, tire walls, and tread for cuts, broken cords, or other damage. If the rim parts are not fitted properly when the tire is being inflated, the rim parts may fly off, possibly causing serious injury, death or damage to property. Use a protective cage and do not stand directly in front of the rim. Stand beside the tread when inflating tire. When inflating tires use a compressed air gun with extension hose and pressure gauge.
Check the pressure occasionally to prevent over inflation. Refer to “Check Tire Pressure” on page 3-54 for additional information about inflating tires. Refer to “HANDLING TIRES” on page 2-154 for information about the safe handling of tires and rims. 1-50 WA430-6
