5 BATTERIES Charging batteries XF 95 series - A battery may be said to be charged if the charging voltage has not increased for more than 2 hours and the acid density (relative density) has reached the nominal value (for example, 1.28 kg/dm 3 ) and does not rise further. - A charged battery must be used immediately. If this is not possible, maintain the battery as described in the section ‘Storage of batteries’. - A discharged battery must be charged as soon as possible. If a discharged battery is not recharged, the battery plates may become sulphated (i.e. hard), which will lead to permanent loss of capacity.
4 - To prevent damage to electronic components, never disconnect the battery terminals when the engine is running. - First connect the positive terminal (+) of the battery charger to the positive pole (+) of the battery and then the negative terminal (--) to the negative pole (--). - Before disconnecting the battery charger leads, switch off the battery charger to avoid sparking and to eliminate the risk of explosion. - To disconnect, first release the negative terminal (--) and then the positive terminal (+). 2-2 200303
