PAINTING FOR NEW VEHICLES 1 -29 (6) TOP COATING Top coating is a very critical process as it gives cosmetic finish, final color and commercial value to the surface. Special attention is made to ensure smooth texture without effects of dust. etc. After masking for the black coating on the door frame, etc., the top coating continues from varnish- ing to coating, setting and drying as in the second coat application. To apply a two-tone coat, the body is masked again after the first top coat application, and the top coat is applied the second time. For top coating requiring many drying stages, wet sanding is used after each drying other than the final drying.

(7) BLACK-OUT COATING After the top coat application, black-out coating is applied to the radiator support and other applica- ble parts. Black-out is used to blacken hidden parts so that the body color is not seen through the grille, etc., and thus improve cosmetic quality. II (8) SPECIAL PAINTING The final stage of painting is the special painting such as striped painting and black coating (external anti-chipping paint coating) on rockers. CD Striped painting A guide is set to the external panel, and paint is applied from a roller gun by moving the gun along the guide. ®Black coating on rockers Semi-gloss or matt black paint is applied to rockers for design improve- ment.

After masking, a two-component urethane paint having high adhering power is applied where necessary. Black coating on other parts (back panels, etc.) is also done during this process. @Drying after special painting Two-component paints are used in special painting. They are dried at 60 to 80°C using infrared baking equipment. GO CD==::.~ ()~~>-·· G -31-
