EM-6 ENGINE MECHANICAL - Engine Tune-up INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT OF IGNITION TIMING 1. CONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT TO ENGINE Connect the test probe of a tachomete r to the ignition co il negative (-) term inal. CAUTION: • NEVER allow the ignition coil terminals to touch ground as it could result in damage to the ignition coil. • It is recommended that you consult with the manufacturer before using a tachometer as some are not compatible with this system. 41 ± 4° 2. INSPECT DWELL ANGLE Check the dwell angle at the engine idling. Dweel angle: 41 ± 4° If the dwell angle is not as spec ified, adjust the rubbing block gap . (See page IG-1 5 or 25) DEGREES EC0041 3.
INSPECT AND ADJUST IGNITION TIMING Ignition timing: 7° BTDC @ Max. 900 rpm (a) Check the ignition timing . EM 1 523 (b) Loosen the bolt and nut hold ing the distr ibutor to the clamp . (c) Adjust by turning the d istributor. (d) Tighten the bolt and nut , and recheck the ignition tim ing . EM152 2
