Diocese of Westminster Ordo 2026 Advent from 17-24 December At Mass proper texts and readings are given for the weekdays from 17-24 December, and these should be used instead of those indicated for the weekdays of the third and fourth weeks of Advent. The weekdays of 17-24 December take precedence over the Memorials of Saints, which therefore may be celebrated only as Optional Commemorations. This means that the Collect of the Saint may be used in place of the Collect of the day. In the Office of Readings the proper hagiographical reading and responsory may be added after the Patristic reading and responsory; the Collect of the Saint concludes the office.
At Lauds and Vespers the antiphon (proper or common) and the Collect of the Saint may be added after the Collect of the day. Only when some genuine need or pastoral advantage requires it may an approprate Mass for Various Needs and Occasions be celebrated (IM 374) . Votive Masses and daily Massses for the Dead are prohibited (IM 381). In the Liturgy of the Hours the invitatory antiphon, the hymns for the Office of Readings, for Lauds and for Vespers are taken from those prescribed for the season. Proper antiphons are assigned for the weekday psalms of Lauds and Vespers. Preface of Advent II is used daily.
