Compline of Sunday Weekdays of Christmas Time On weekdays of Christmas Time from 2 January onwards on which an Optional Memorial is observed, it is possible to choose either the Office and Mass of the weekday or the Office and Mass of the Saint who is inscribed for that day in the calendar or in the Martyrology ( GILH 244; GIRM 355b) . Only when some genuine need or pastoral advantage requires it may an appropriate Mass for Various Needs and Occasions or a Votive Mass be celebrated (GIRM 376) . Daily Masses for the Dead are not permitted (GIRM 381) .
