If wax residue from car washes and other care products remains on the vehicle win- dows, this can cause the wipers to rub. Remove wax residue using a special cleaning product or cleaning cloths. WARNING Improper replacement of bulbs can cause acci- dents and serious or fatal injuries. ● When working in the engine compartment, always follow the described work steps and observe the general safety precautions → page 165. The vehicle's engine compart- ment is a high-risk area. Use extreme caution when working in the engine compartment to avoid serious injuries. Changing bulbs Introduction ● H7 bulb is treated with high voltage inside. It may explode when replaced!
This chapter contains information on the follow- ing subjects: ● Change bulbs only when they have cooled down completely. – “Information on changing bulbs”Checklist 156 ● Never change a bulb unless you know exactly how to carry this out. If you are uncertain about how to change a bulb, have the work carried out by a suitably qualified workshop. Volkswagen recommends using a Volkswa- gen dealership. Expertise is required to check and replace bulbs or LED light units. If you are uncertain about how to change a bulb or LED light unit, have the work carried out by a suitably qualified workshop.
If the replacement requires the removal of other vehicle components, you should have them re- placed by a suitably qualified workshop. Volks- wagen recommends using a Volkswagen dealer- ship. ● Do not touch the bulb with unprotected fin- gers. When switched on, the heat of the bulb would cause the remaining fingerprint to evaporate and be deposited on the glass. This will cause the reflector to become “blown”. It may be illegal to drive with faulty exterior lights. ● Be cautious when replacing bulbs to avoid being scratched by the sharp parts of the headlight and combination taillight housings in the engine compartment. LED light units in the vehicle Exterior lighting may use LED technology.
Some LEDs cannot be replaced. If individual LEDs fail, this may be an indication that more LEDs are on the point of failure. In this case, have the LED light units checked and renewed if necessary at a correspondingly qualified workshop. NOTICE Always fit the covers on the headlight housing after changing bulbs and make sure that the cov- ers are secured correctly. If water enters the headlight housing, it can cause damage to the electrical system. Additional bulb specifications Some bulbs in the headlights or combination tail- lights might have factory specifications that dif- fer from standard bulbs. The designation is in- scribed on the bulb, either on the glass part or on the base.
WARNING If the road lighting is not bright enough, other road users may have difficulty seeing the vehi- cle or may not see it at all. This can cause acci- dents and serious or fatal injuries. 182.5C1.TRO.74 If and when 155
