Checklist (Continued) 11. In order to avoid overfilling, wait for at least 1 minute after each refill step to allow the engine oil to flow into the sump. 12. Read the engine oil level from the dipstick again before refilling with a further small quantity of engine oil → . 13. After filling, the engine oil level should be in the middle of the area → Fig. 138 C . The engine oil level should not be above the area C into the area B , but must not be in the area above A → . 14. If you have added an excessive amount of engine oil by accident and the engine oil level is thus above area → Fig. 138 A , do not start the engine . Seek expert assistance. 15.
After refilling, close the engine oil filler opening with the cap. 16. Insert the oil dipstick into the guide tube again as far as it will go. If there is a marking on the oil dipstick, this marking must fit in the corresponding groove at the top end of the guide tube when inserting. 17. Closing the bonnet → page 165. WARNING Troubleshooting When refilling, engine oil can spill or overflow and ignite if it gets onto hot engine parts. This can cause fires or burns. This can result in seri- ous or fatal injuries. Please refer to and on page 165 and at the start of the chapter on page 171. and Engine oil pressure too low The warning lamp flashes red and a message is shown:
Engine oil pressure: Pull over! Pay attention to the messages on board. ● Spilled oil on cold engine components, the oil temperature will rise when it's running, easy to spontaneous combustion. ● After filling the oil, make sure to tighten the oil filler opening cap and insert the oil dip- stick into the guide tube correctly to prevent oil from spilling over to the hot components of the engine when the engine is running. Do not drive on! Switch off the engine and check the engine oil level. → page 173 If the warning lamp is flashing even when the engine oil level is correct, do not drive on or leave the engine running. The engine could otherwise be damaged. Seek expert assis- tance.
● Do not start the engine if the engine oil level is in the area → Fig. 138 A ! Seek expert assis- tance, or this can damage the engineand cata- lytic converter. NOTICE ● Do not add wrong service fluids when adding or changing vehicle service fluids! The use of incorrect oil could result in serious malfunc- tions and engine damage. Coolant Introduction Engine oil level shall not be in the area → Fig. 138 A . Otherwise the oil will en- ter the crankcase ventilation unit and enter the atmosphere through the exhaust unit.
