● Do not leave children or persons in need of assistance alone in the vehicle as they may lock the vehicle with the vehicle key or the central locking button, thus trapping themselves in the vehicle. Tailgate opening and closing Please refer to and at the start of the chapter on page 58. WARNING Unlocking or opening the tail door improperly or unsupervised can result in serious injury. ● It may not be possible to accurately deter- mine whether the tailgate has been unlocked when a luggage rack is mounted on it and there is a load on it. The unlocked tailgate may open suddenly during driving.
WARNING When the tailgate is covered with heavy snow or loaded with heavy loads, the tailgate may close on its own under the action of additional loads and cause serious injury. Fig. 49 Open the tailgate from the outside ● Do not open the tailgate when it is heavily covered with snow or when there is a load (e.g. on the luggage rack). ● Open the tailgate and clear the snow or un- load the load first. When closing the tailgate, do not press the rear window glass on the tailgate. Otherwise, the rear window glass may break, causing injury. Otherwise, the tail- gate may be damaged and cannot be closed. Open the tailgate – Press the button on the vehicle key to un- lock the tailgate or fully unlock the vehicle, and open the tailgate by pressing the button → Fig. 49 (arrow); NOTICE The rear window wiper or spoiler shall not be used to hold the load or as a handle, otherwise it may damage the rear window wiper or break the rear spoiler. – Or: Press the button on the vehicle key un- til the tailgate automatically opens for several millimeters, and open the tailgate by pressing the button → Fig. 49 (arrow); – After opening the tailgate, push the tailgate up to stop position. Close tailgate – Hold the recessed handle → Fig.
