SEATS AND RESTRAINTS Fixed Tethers Tether Adjustment 1 If your Kenworth has been equipped with fixed length tethers, no manual adjustment is required. The same inspection and replacement guidelines should be used as stated in Safety Restraint System - Inspection on page 5-57. Failure to adjust tether belts properly can cause excessive movement of the seat in an accident. Tether belts should be adjusted so that they are taut when the seat is in its most up- ward and forward position. Failure to comply may result in personal in- jury or death. WARNING! Make sure that the tether belt is attached to the cab floor and seat frame. It should be routed through the buckle on each side.

Often the attachments are made using a split-type hook. Make sure both halves of the hook are around the anchor bracket. Do not remove, modify, or replace the tether belt system with a differ- ent tether system. A failed or miss- ing tether belt could allow the seat base to fully extend in the event of an accident. Failure to comply may result in personal injury or death. WARNING! To lengthen the tether, turn the buckle to a right angle to the webbing. Then pull the buckle. To shorten the tether, pull on the strap. WARNING! Before driving or riding in a vehi- cle, ensure that there is adequate head clearance at maximum upward travel of seat.

Shorten the tether belt as necessary to provide adequate head clearance. Injury or death may occur if head clearance is not ade- quate. (02/14) Y53-1203-1D1 1-25
