volkswagen — System limits of Front Assist

Objects that cannot be detected Stationary vehi- cles Around 5 km/h to 85 km/h a) Front Assist may not react or may react with a delay in the case of the following objects: – Vehicles driving outside the sensor range and in the vicinity of the vehicle, e.g. vehicles or motorcycles ahead. Vehicles driving in the same di- rection Around 5 km/h to 250 km/h a) Around 5 km/h to 65 km/h a) Pedestrians walking in the same direction – Vehicles switching from the adjacent lane in front of the vehicle. a) This data is an approximate value and only applies under ideal conditions. – Vehicles with protruding attachments or add- ons.

Autonomous emergency braking Autonomous emergency braking function is an integral part of Front Assist. Front Assist can brake the vehicle automatically in several stages with increasing braking force, without issuing a prior warning. – Oncoming vehicles or vehicles crossing your path. – Stationary or oncoming pedestrians, or pedes- trians moving in the driving direction. – When pedestrians and cyclists are not detec- ted, for example because they are partially or fully hidden. The red warning lamp  lights up.  Function limitations Front Assist may not react or may react with a delay in the following conditions: – Driving at a sharp turn.

System limits of Front Assist  Please refer to at the start of the chapter on page 118. – Driving in poor weather conditions, e.g. heavy rain, snow or heavy spray. – Driving in the parking lot.  /  Front Assist is not available or only partially available for approximately 30 seconds after vehicle start (depending on different driving conditions). Depending on vehicle equipment, the indicator lamp lights up yellow or white in the instrument cluster display during this time. When the indicator lamp lights up white, the warning lamp may also illuminate at the same time  . – Driving on roads with embedded metal ob- jects, e.g. railway tracks. – Reversing. – If ASR is switched off.

– If ESC is performing a control intervention. – If several brake lights on the vehicle are faulty. – The radar sensor is dirty or covered. – If the vehicle accelerates hard or the accelera- tor is fully depressed. Front Assist cannot replace the driver’s attention and operates only within the limits of the system. Always be prepared to brake the vehicle yourself. – In complex driving conditions, e.g. safety is- land. – In unclear traffic situations, e.g. vehicles ahead are braking heavily or turning off. Delayed response If the sensor system is exposed to environmental conditions that impair sensor functioning, the driver assist systems may detect this only after a certain delay.

For this reason, any restrictions to functions may be displayed only after a delay at the start of the journey and when driving → in Introduction on page 118. – If there is a fault in Front Assist.  Owner's manual 120 Braking intervention
