● Do not continue refuelling when the filler nozzle switches off for the first time. Catalytic converter Please refer to and on page 147 and at the start of the chapter on page 150. Emission control Observe the following information to help ensure the long-term functionality of the exhaust sys- tem and the catalytic converter in the petrol en- gine: – Only use fuel that has been approved for the vehicle → page 148. Introduction This chapter contains information on the follow- ing subjects: – Do not overfill engine oil → page 173. – Do not run the fuel tank empty → page 149. – Catalytic converter 150 – Particulate filter 150 – Troubleshooting 151 – Do not tow-start the vehicle.
Use jumper ca- bles for emergency starting → page 160. Depending on the vehicle equipment, the emis- sion level achieved by the vehicle at the time of manufacture should comply with the require- ments of GB18352.6 - 2016. If you notice misfiring, loss of power or uneven running when driving, reduce speed immediately and have the vehicle checked by a correspond- ingly qualified workshop → page 151. Otherwise, unburned fuel can enter the exhaust system and escape into the atmosphere. The catalytic con- verter can also be damaged by overheating. The components relevant to emission control re- duce harmful emissions:
– Catalytic converter → page 150 – Particulate filter → page 150 The emissions may have a sulphur-like smell even if the emission purification sys- tem is working properly. For information about the lit-up warning lamp and indicator lamp, refer to Troubleshooting → page 151. WARNING Particulate filter The engine exhaust gas contains colourless and odourless poisonous carbon monoxide, which can cause unconsciousness and death. Please refer to and on page 147 and at the start of the chapter on page 150. ● Do not allow the engine to run in enclosed spaces.
Function To comply with national regulations on vehicle emissions, certain vehicle models are equipped with particulate filters in their emission purifica- tion systems. These filters are designed to cap- ture fine carbon particles from the exhaust gases, thereby reducing atmospheric pollution. ● Never start the engine in enclosed spaces. ● Do not leave the vehicle unattended if the engine is running. WARNING The components of the exhaust system be- come very hot and can lead to a fire and cause serious or fatal injuries.
In order to maintain optimal particulate filter performance, engines equipped with a particu- late filter should be used in conjunction with low-ash engine oil → page 170 to ensure the proper functioning of the filter. ● Park the vehicle so that no part of the ex- haust system can come into contact with any inflammable material underneath the vehi- cle, e.g. dry grass. ● Never apply additional underseal or anti-cor- rosion coatings to the exhaust pipes, catalyt- ic converters, heat shields or particulate fil- ter.
