ES300 — OUTLINE OF NEW FEATURES ES300 OUTLINE OF NEW FEATURES The ES300, which is favorably received as a distinctive sporty personal sedan, offers the following changes in the ’99 model. 1. Exterior The body color has been changed. The top shaded section of the front window shield glass is too dark. 2. Interior The push open type sunglass holder is added on the overhead console. 3. 1MZ-FE Engine The 1MZ-FE engine has adopted the VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) system, the 3-stage ACIS (Acoustic Control Induction System) and the 3-way exhaust control system to improve engine perfor- mance and fuel economy, and reduce exhaust emissions.
ORVR (On-Board Refueling Vapor Recovery) system has been adopted. A service port for inspecting the evaporative control system has been provided between the charcoal canister and VSV for EVAP. For details, see the General 1999 Features section. An active control engine mount is used on the front engine mount. The direction of the rotation of the electric cooling fan has been reversed. 4. U140E Automatic Transaxle The U140E is a newly adopted 4-speed automatic transaxle [Super ECT (Electronically Controlled Trans- axle)]. 5. Brake The TRAC (Traction Control) system is provided as standard equipment. The VSC (Vehicle Skid Control) system is provided as optional equipment.
The ABS & TRAC ECU or ABS & TRAC & VSC ECU outputs the vehicle speed signal that is used by the speedometer in the combination meter. 6. Axles The rear axle bearing specifications have been partially changed. 7. Body The construction of the Head Impact Protection Structure has been changed.
