2 System Overview i8130/40/50: Engine Interface (BY2 Unlimited) i8325: Engine Interface (6LY3, 6CX) i8350/ 55: Engine Interface Module (SY GEN III) Control Heads There are a variety of control head styles available for the BY2 Unlimited, 6LY3, 6CX and SY GEN III and all are designed to work with any of the engines. The head styles can be mixed on a multi-station vessel to offer the best flexibility in the industry. The control heads all perform the following tasks: Translate the control lever position into appropriate digital signals and send those signals over the CAN Bus. Monitor the associated control head push buttons and send those signals over the CAN Bus.

Assure the control head push buttons signals are reasonable when compared to the control lever position. Allow the selection of various premium features such as “Sync,” “Trolling,” and “Split Range Throttle.” Accepts signals from other control head buttons like trolling switch and triple engine panels and send that data out on the CAN Bus. Monitors the condition of the devices connected to the CAN Bus and assures a safe shutdown if the condition of the CAN Bus or the required devices are not operating properly. Supply trim switches when that feature is required. The CH67500 and CH67501 control heads have a built-in module to handle all of the above tasks.

All of the other control heads use an external module, which is mounted close to the control head and connects to the control head via a short electrical cable. This computer module is identified by a CH67XXX part number that typically matches the control head part number. See “Section 6 - Interface Modules” in this manual for additional details about this module.
